I wake up in my bed, and the sun flows through curtains to my eyes, I don't feel the sun in my eyes, I didn't feel anything. In fact I felt weightless. My throat burned like a dessert I figured my weightlessness was a Side effect of my near dehydration. I felt like I was dead my whole body throbbed with each move I make, I go into the kitchen and flipped the sink on and chugged the water straight from the sink until I felt like an inflated balloon and wiped the water from my lips on my sweatshirt sleeve and continue my "limp" across the house.

I couldn't see anyone, my wife was gone, even my dog was gone. My wife must have taken him to the park it wasn't uncommon for her to do this. I could see her and my beautiful Golden Retriever running in the park. I sat on the couch and thought about my dream. I still felt like crap, maybe I have the flu, maybe I was dying. I always questioned if the flu was worse than it seemed. I closed my eyes and jumped up in a scream. An image of an arm burnt to a crisp flashed in my head. I was delirious, I shook my head and rubbed my eyes to shake this feeling away from me. I was disturbed at myself. I drag my feet off the couch and walk at a slow pace to the bathroom.

I flip on the sink and splash my face with water; I look into the mirror and see myself. My beard grew out to more than stubble and my eyes were crusted together and my hair a rat's nest. The more water I splashed on my face the more dead I felt. I looked into the mirror again and remembered shaving the other day, how long was I asleep I started to question. I reach into my pocket and grab my phone. It was March, 21. I had been asleep for a week! How was I alive?! I remember on March, 14 I had a busy day at work and I usually sleep in until four in the afternoon, but a week is crazy. Something had to be wrong with me. I dialed my girlfriend’s number on my phone. It rung and went to a message saying her phone has been disconnected. This was not like her; she was always on her phone and always answered the second you called her. I was scared is she hurt, dead even, I decided the best idea was to see if my neighbor had seen her.

I was feeling like crap so I said "Fuck my hair" and threw a on a black and grey army hat . I was gaining my leg strength back and was walking at my normal speed. It was a crappy day out the grey sky taunting my already grey day. I arrived at my neighbor Coopers house. I knocked once and I heard his little puppy yapping and running towards the door and me. I knocked one more time and was only greeted by his puppy but no Cooper. I walked around and look in the windows his house was clean everything in place, but I didn't see him. I didn't know my other neighbors and their house had a wall of trees covering the view of my house. So they had no way of knowing or seeing where she went. I decided to call Cooper. It rang but again, his phone was disconnected. I started to think of what could have happened, there was obviously no robbery. Everything that was worth stealing in my house was still there, my TV, Computer, and PlayStation.

If someone murdered my girlfriend they sure did a great job cleaning up and why would they have a motive, my girlfriend was the sweetest woman I ever met, I was joking with myself asking if i literally slept through the end of the world. Everyone I knew said that it was possible for me, I zoned out looking at the street, and it was empty. I lived on a pretty busy intersection with cars passing my house all the time. I was creped out, no cars, no people, everyone’s phone was disconnected. Everything just felt quiet. No sounds from the city only a few miles away. The silence gave me chills. The wind blew a cold breeze and I was at a loss of what to do.

I didn't know what to do, if I called 911 I would sound like a nut job describing this situation. I had a feeling if I tried calling anyone else I had a feeling their phones are disconnected too. My car was still in my driveway. It was intact, no parts missing. I decided it would be a good idea to take a ride around town to ask people at a few of wife's favorite places if they have seen her. It was about a five minute drive into town. The only thing that I could see was a pair of cars collided in the street. I was weirded out but decided to give it a look to see if anyone needed help. I pulled up next to them and heard moaning, someone was alive. I jogged over to the car that was the most damaged. The car was dented everywhere. It look like it was hit by a semi, not by a fellow car, the cars were smashed with smudges of blood on the hood. I had to help.

I pried open the door, it was almost impossible to get it open I finally got the door open. What I saw inside, scarred me, three people lay seemingly dead in the car. Two adults in the front and a small child in the back. My eyes were glued to the family. I zoned out, the child had tear stained cheeks and the adults had fear glued on their faces, this had to be more than a car accident. Something bad happened. Really bad,

I looked around, screamed for help. Screamed louder until I felt like my vocal cords snapped. That’s when I felt it. The worst pain I ever felt, it was in my foot, and I saw blood gushing from my foot. What did this, I franticly thought. That's when I saw it. I knew why the family in the car saw, it was truly something to be afraid of.

The creature underneath the car. The first thing I saw was burnt arms, then golden brown hair in a crazy mess, then I saw the familiar Northern University sweatshirt. It was my wife, she was burnt to a crisp and screaming and chopping her almost disconnected jaw. I backed away ignoring the pain in my foot. The other car in the crash was my wife's car. Should I help or run, she was my wife but she bit threw my shoe and my foot. She was crazy or something; I saw her move swiftly from the belly of the car. It Got up and sprinted towards me, swinging her burnt arms. I dodged them, I had to get to my car, and she was going to rip me apart. The arms were swinging at me at impossible angles. The arms came close to hitting me but I still was able to dodge the arms even with my injured foot.

I limped to my car ignoring the blood pouring from my foot. I hopped in my car and turned the keys and tried taking off but I was so nervous and my foot hurt. In my troubles I could not properly use the stick shift and stalled it. It started right back up but my "girlfriend" caught up and jumped on the back of my car, she pounded the windshield and I hit the top speed of my car and whipped into reverse and purposely driving through the front window of a grocery store. Glass flew everywhere and its sound almost shattered my ears, the sound of metal crashing and glass breaking overwhelmed me.

My "girlfriends" body flew through the glass and through multiple shelves making a horrible screech with each slam against the shelf. Food and drinks flew through the store and slam into my car cracking the windshield. Glass flew into my face and neck. I screamed in pain. I then blacked out.

When I awoke I rubbed my neck trying to recover from my major whiplash I just experienced and tediously picked glass out of my face and neck. I limp over the broken glass along with the miscellaneous of items over to her body. I didn't want to do it, but I had to. I lifted my uninjured foot and smashed it to the head of the of my girlfriend. The crunching sound of my loved ones skull cracking I had to do it. After wiping the brains off my shoe, I realizing what I just did I killed the woman I shared everything with, I laughed with her, I kissed her. I loved her. Now she is gone. Gone forever and I knew it.

I limped and sobbed around the grocery store it was not empty, but not in order like Cooper's house, carts stood full of food, the TV’s still on and a giant telephone tower crashed in the middle of the store, along with some blood here and there. I walked around and saw nothing at all. I walked around for a half an hour, calling for someone I knew would not be there. I yelled asking if anyone was there. Nothing. Just like I expected. I felt lonely, the only people I have seen today were either dead or someone who should be dead but wasn't

I looked up at the TVs to find more information about what the hell was going on, since I noticed the same broadcast had been repeating for the last 10 minutes. It said "Infection spreading through U.S cities takes shelter, as the disease is spread through bites". Bites? I thought.

I looked down at my injured foot.

I was bitten.

I sat down and sobbed, I sobbed for hours, in a day I had lost everything, I lost my girlfriend and everything I could think of. I heard a noise and tensed up, I heard a clicking noise and prepared for another attack, but saw, my dog. He limped over to me, I cried tears of joy, I hugged him and helped him lay down.
