I was left alone. One of the soul survivors of my entire people. I should start to explain though. Have you ever heard of the Battle of Britain? Well, think of that, but with small nuclear war heads, and gas bombs. This went on for a long time, seemingly for an eternity. Many people tried to escape. Most were unsuccessful. Many of the wiser men of my village were the ones who thought to go to the forest.
That was the only place that wasn't completely obliterated. Many of them became recluses, hiding, waiting for it all to end. They only seemed to keep material possessions, not sentimental things, that was something that helped the people in the end.
I also went into hiding for a short period of time. Much of the existing animals and other wildlife were mutated in the radiation. Some of the worst of these creatures were the people themselves. They wanted to hide there appearance from others. They sought shelter in the abandoned ruins of the previous settlements. I called them the darkness.
I once visited those settlements. Thankfully I didn't find any of the darkness there. But, I shouldn't have gone. I had no defense. I just wanted to find some food, or some drinking water. I had to run past the mutants that were lurking in the ruins. I was hit by some bats that were following me around. It hurt, but I had to keep going. I was about to go when I stumbled upon the lower levels. I found a bow and arrow there.
I fought my way out and went in search of another abandoned area. I got ambushed by a mutated octopus who had found its way to shore. It threw a rock. But I put up my "shield" in hopes that it would stop it. I say "shield" because it was a piece of wood. I escaped but then I was attacked by one of the darkness. It just went at me, full force, not holding back. I couldn't seem to block its shots. It was going too fast for me to raise my shields. It knocked me out.
When I awoke, I was deep within the forest. I was grateful to be alive, but I was mad to not have found any food or water. I noticed a cave that I had never noticed before. I thought it would be a cave that the darkness where hiding in. When I walked in, I was relieved to see one of the recluses. Then he said something I will never forget.
"It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!"

Second mindf*** and yes I know I'm probably not very good at these, but I thought I'd take a crack at it. By the way "the darkness" refers to Darknuts, the knight armor guys. All feedback is welcome, and tell me what line you figured it out by.
